What’s the difference between a Lead and an Opportunity

Q: What’s the difference between a Lead and an Opportunity

Leads: Leads are essentially unqualified opportunities. A lead is a person, company or project that fits the profile of a customer (for your business), but no contact or interest has been established.

Opportunities: An opportunity is created once contact been established and they have expressed interest in engaging in sales discussions. Whether or not the prospect decides to proceed forward with you in business is one thing, but once the contact is engaged in your sales process (i.e. discussions, quotes, etc.) they are an opportunity.

Notes:

Opportunities cannot be demoted to leads.

Once a lead has a quote tied to it, the lead automatically becomes an opportunity.

Leads generally have not been contacted.
